Early XVIIth century- Spain or Italy.
Polychrome carved wooden panel representing Saint Jerome in the desert with his symbols , the saint is almost undressed with a stone in the hand to symbolize a life of penance. He has all around rich garments and at left a red cardinal’s hat to remember that he was a master of the church and a scholar. At the lower right a small lion’s head hidden in the draperies. The picture has an archaic and naif style.
